In plain english, what's the difference between Mixmaster and Mixminion
remailers? I understand that type III is better, but how (in layman's
terms, please)? Thank you.

Mixminion is bi-directional. Mixmaster is not.

IOW: Mixminion is Type I and Type II traffic improved and combined in
one. Type I never was really safe..

The most important difference, as far as the end user is
concerned is this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
---------
MIXMINION 0.0.7.1 (latest version):

This is a testing alpha release. You will probably only want to
use it if
you are technically inclined, curious, and interested in helping
the
Mixminion development effort.

WARNING! Do NOT use this release if you require strong
anonymity. It has
known deficiencies, including some that make it possible for an
adversary
to trace your message through the system.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
---------

If you want to encrypt your emails for real, use Mixmaster.

Mixminion is NOT better. Yet.
