The question should be: "How anonymous am I?". Newsfeeds knows who
you are, since it's _not_ an anonymity provider. Then there is that
"X-Proxy-User: $$ihq91twnpfu" in your header, which identifies your
account across all of Usenet, even if you change your "From:" line.

Are normal Usenet users able to identify you in person? Very
unlikely. That is, if you don't do stupid things like posting with
your real name somewhere (remember that "X-Proxy-User:"?).

If you want real anonymity, use remailers (or better yet, don't post
at all ;o).

The Message-ID field also looks very interesting. Not sure if XNews or
Newsfeeds does this. You could use 'X-No-Archive: Yes' to be
non-searchable from groups.google.com

That MID is Xnews generated, but "38.119.71.214" is owned by
Newsfeeds. Xnews uses the name or the IP# of the newsserver as part
of its MID.

Not for the first week after posting the article in question. Google
Groups Beta keeps articles with XNA for 7 days, after which they are
removed. Then there are other search engines besides Google not
honoring XNA.

That's not entirely true. For 7 days your article with XNA is displayed
in the thread and in that group, but it is *not* searchable.

After the 7 days, the article isn't available at all.

Can you provide some links?

Correct.

To add to what BiKiKii Admin said:
<http://howardk.freenix.org/>
A simple yet very useful article lookup service. Just enter a
Message-ID and you get the article.

<http://netscan.research.microsoft.com/>
(Enhanced version for IE users)
<http://netscan.research.microsoft.com/Static/>
(Version for non-IE users)
No further comment needed, I guess.

Those are just a few examples. There are several web-boards
(bulletin boards) including (some of the) newsgroups as normal
forums for their users, saving the content in its local database.

Again, honoring XNA is not a requirement, it's just a user's request
(which can be ignored). If you don't want your posts being archived,
don't post to Usenet.

Obviously they aren't telling the truth.

It shows certain information about posts, but I can't get it to show
the body of the post, the actual content. It does however show the
body of the posts in microsoft.* groups.

Is this just a problem with my browser?

I see. Perhaps that's not intentional, but just worded incorrectly.
If you add "afterwards" to "and will never be searchable", it gets
a whole new meaning. Or they altered something and forgot to update
that text.

No, I believe it's still in development. When they finally release
the full feature set, the real fun begins. ;o)

Even assuming truth in Google's statements about X-No-Archive meaning that
posts so marked will not be searchable, you can bet you're last dollar that
they'll not be deleting it from their database.

No doubt. This is why the better option is to just post anonymously and forget
concern over XNA
