What would be a currently working, fairly speedy mail2news gateway?
Looking at http://quicksilvermail.net/mail2news.html
I have tried several and none of them seem to work. I am sending
plaintext through them, I do not require encryption.

Mail2news@dizum.com has always worked well for me, as you can see.

It doesn't work for me. I have tried several times to send messages
through mail2news @ dizum and they have not appeared.

Do messages have to be encrypted before they go through mail2news?

No. But they need a 'Newsgroups' header. See
https://ssl.dizum.com/help/mail2news.html for instructions.

should go through but does not. Do you have constructive advice as to
why it does not work, and how to get it working?

I think they did.

See 200601242007.k0OK7wFU019619@sdf.lonestar.org
and 200601242121.k0OLLkLs022758@sdf.lonestar.org

Possibly a problem with your news server not getting alt.cotse.

Also you were replying to a post concerning Dizum, not Cotse. The two are
not related.

Both reached my newsserver from lcs' mail2news:
news.alt.net!anon.lcs.mit.edu!nym.alias.net!mail2news

Exactly. Dizum, not lcs.

His questioned messages are directed to mail2news@dizum.com bound for
alt.cotse and failed.
The messages you refer went to mail2news@lcs.mit.edu, which succeeded.

The dizum mailq contained 70K messages or so, so turn around
times were slow. It seems LCS posted the message befor dizum
did and therefor the dizum messages were rejected by 'usenet'
as being duplicates.

The turn around times should be back to normal again ..
