Hi all !

You have not heard a lot from me recently, but many things have happened
here so I wanted to give you an update on this.

1) Outage in December
I have been away the first 2 weeks of December, and against all odds Murphy
did not strike and the remailer ran smoothly during this period. However,
as soon as I was back I started making some changes and I fear I have
broken things for several days end of December...

The changes though were highly necessary, I have moved most services to
debian, so now the debian box hosts not only the mail transport service
(postfix) and the nym-server but also the whole website and the wiki. As
you might remember I had my debian system running inside a vmware
environment on the windows box, and despite the vmware being very stable
the windows box kept crashing from a memory leak.
Now most services except Reliable and the news server (dnews) are on a
separate linux box which should really increase reliability.

2) Move to eu.org domain
As you might have noticed I run the nymserver in the panta-rhei.eu.org
domain which I administrate myself, and have now also moved the website
there. I plan to change the remailer address to the eu.org domain with the
next key change. This is just a precaution to remove points of possible
failure.

3) Problems sending mail to AOL
AOL has very strict requirements for accepting email, and they are proud
that they killfile billions of emails. While this makes for less spam in
the customers inbox it unfortunately also makes them quite unreachable as I
experienced recently. Email from Panta Rhei was rejected at AOL because
Panta Rhei had no reverse DNS record. This has been rectified, and AOL
should now accept email from the Panta Rhei remailer.

4) Personal stuff
I have finally managed to submit my PhD thesis to university College
London, and will soon have my Viva. As you might have guessed from several
cock-ups at the remailer I am not an IT person, I did my PhD in Molecular
Biology and my thesis concerns human stem cell transplantation. As you know
I have moved from England to my home country of Austria a while ago, taking
the remailer with me, and setting it up here at my parents place. I will
most probably leave it here and remotely administrate it when I move on to
my first Postdoc job in a little while, but rest assured my family will
keep an eye on it.

So, thats all for now, a very late Happy New Year to all of you,
Cheers,
