Choice Point, the information broker is paying dearly for their failure
to protect people's personal information.

Could this serve as a warning for others?

Hardly. I would say it's more like open season to sell your
information. 2005 annual service revenue for Choicepoint was
$1,029,857,000 with operating income of $237,145,000. The $15M
FTC fine is less than 10% of their profit for 1 year. They're laughing
all the way to the bank and probably planning their next crime. People
should be in jail and Choicepoint principals should be enjoined for life
from engaging in the business of information brokering.

Yet again, a Bush Administration crony screws the average person
and hands a victory to organized white collar crime. I guess I should
be happy that the FTC didn't give Derek V. Smith a corporate citizenship
award to enjoy while he spends his $9M in annual compensation from
Choicepoint.
