Who operates more than 2 remailers ? If 3 or more remailers are
operated by the same remops, the probability is pretty hight
that an email ends-up going through a chain of remailers
operated by the same person. The higher the number of remailers
operated by the same person and the shorter the chain the sender
is using, the higher is the probability that an email ends-up in
a chain of remailers (entry to exit) controlled by the same
remops. If the remailers operated by the same person have very
good stats the probability is even higher because the remailers
with the best stats are those choosen by QS or JBN if the sender
uses random chains and has set-up mxmaster to use remailers with
very high stats. What if such a remop works for NSA or CIA ?

Which is the best justification for running a remailer of your own.
Assuming you trust your remailer, problem solved.

What if the remop's computer was infected with a worm that's unknown to
the makers of antivirus scanners?

George, when you post, you should use a chain and not just your
own remailer :-)

Or what if the CIA puts so much pressure on Swift in Belgium that they
tell the CIA about all money transfers through their computers..

Which is worse, not knowing about a worm or knowing and keeping it a secret?

you mean the TLA could have the private key and password for the remailer?
Remops are smart enough that they would not be infected with a worm even
if it was a worm that there antivirus or firewall could not see. Why?
Because there are other ways of keeping a worm from turning on. And
also of seeing if information is leaving the computer that should not.

You thought having IDS would make a remailer /more/ secure?
