| Am looking for an alternative since M2N Gateways with remailers seem to be
permanently down.
Some have recommended octanews.
Can you please post your experiences with this server.
How many newsgroups are included?
Does Mike Horvath allow different From, for posting?
Does he censor articles?
All comments will be appreciated.

They're not down if you see this post.
I recommend Newsreader.com.

As far as I know they are the only news service provider that sell block
accounts and lets you use SSL, this is actually the only reason why I
joined them.
[vbcol=seagreen]
All the ones I need are there and if it isn't you can request it to be
included,
however requests aren't anonymous (Astraweb requests are).
[vbcol=seagreen]
I am not sure I know what that means.
[vbcol=seagreen]
Not as far as I know, certainly much better than Teranews who recently
decided
to drop alt.flame.niggers because they did not like it but they have no
problem
carrying alt.flame.whites, that is the problem with censorhip, once you
start to
do it you should honour when other people demand you censor something else.
[vbcol=seagreen]
I reccomend them for block accounts, for binaries you may be able to find
somewhere
cheaper. From a privacy point of view their website states that they do
not log downloads
but keep uploads logs for 30 days.

Octanews is an excellent news service. For one, an account can
be purchased by money order. Two, they offer NNTPS (SSL).
Three, you can buy a block account, which will last a long time
if used for text.
My understanding is that Mike does not carry known child porn
groups (how he knows which ones are child porn, I don't want to
know).

My undestanding is that Mike does not work for the police department
and his job it is not to go after illegal material but to provide access to
news.
Let me add too that anyone claiming that news service provider X
does not carry "known" (by who?) child erotica groups is an ignorant
because Usenet is impossible to monitor accuratetly.
As far as I know Octanews is a one man operation which really tells you
everything you need to know about the amount of time that can be dedicated
to bullshit.

From the Octanews website:
"Group additions are not guaranteed to be done for multiple
reasons, including the validity of the group, groups containing
patently offensive material (child porn) or the like."

There is a big difference between refusing to add groups that contain
offensive material as the website says to the claim you made saying
that Octanews has a crystal ball to find out all offensive material.
And if you know any news service provider that will add illegal child
pornography with their full knowledge please let us know as this
would constitute a crime, in other words, Octanews is not special
when dealing with this material they do like everyone else.

Mike's block accounts are non expiring, they last right up until you use
then up

Octanews provides quality news and services and should be supported because
of the standards they keep. They've probably lost some business as a
result, business not to many would want anyway, but still lost business?

Who made any claim about a crystal ball?
