| There is an anomaly in News2Remail 1.0.9.7 - a minor one.
When the mixdir is QS\mix the Send command sends
the mix messages to QS\mix\pool.
The News2Remail -S works perfectly however, so if I
*move* the mix files from QS\mix\pool to
News2Remail\mix\pool they get sent from that directory.
Can you make News2Remail ignore the Mixdir from the
registry when formatting messages?

It is Mixmaster using the MixDir entry not news2remail.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that the OPEN function in PERL would be
running mix under the env PERL has set, not the reg. I know exec works
that way, which is why the executing of mix -S by the news2remail script
(news2remail -S) is ignoring the reg and sending from the right dir.
I'll have to look into the OPEN command and see if I can pass it an
environment too.

Even as is, it's a wonderful program. I'm sure you have your
own "To Do" list, but here are some suggestions:
1. [As above]
2. A configuration module/program, either during or after
installation. The things to configure are no mystery, but
since the "defaults" are not universal, it would help to
be reminded which ones might need to be changed (e.g. news server,
mix directory, smtp server, username/password, mix parameters
other than smtp server, News2Remail port, chain/copies (for
News2Remail and Mix?), stats and keys.
3. Include mix installation with News2remail
4. Optional Automatic updates (timed according to the time stamp
on the stats files - User deterimined interval)
5. Anything else I'm forgetting.
Necessary? No. Just easier.

I guess I overwhelmed it with extra headers.

That makes sense. Other than using the exported and edited
"reg" entries, is there another workaround that would leave
the registry unchanged in the end? Like, maybe, changing the
registry entry temporarily and then changing it back?

Assuming you have created two .REG files, one that contains the required MixDir
value for News2Remail and the other with the existing MixDir value, this batch
file should do just that, as well as sending any mail in the pool when you exit.
n2r.bat
=======
@echo off
cls
cd C:\news2remail
regedit /s C:\news2remail\news2remail.reg
news2remail.exe
C:\news2remail\mix29b39\mix -S
regedit /s C:\news2remail\default.reg
It's not fancy but it works OK.
NOTE:
1. Change the paths to suit your system.
2. Exit News2Remail with Ctrl-C and when asked if you
want to "Terminate Batch Job", answer No.

Can you mail me a copy of the conf you used with all the extra headers
that caused this (sans all personally identifing info, of course)?
Basically I need what you did so I can duplicate it locally and fix it.
Even with overloading it with headers it should not be doing that.

That would all be part of the GUI version.

Part of that is already in n2r, I had intended to go further with it.
> 4. Optional Automatic updates (timed according to the time stamp
> on the stats files - User deterimined interval)
I don't really see the necessity. You can add news2remail -stats to
task scheduler right now to get them to update every n
seconds/minutes/hours/days/months/etc. Or run news2remail -updatestats
to start it and it will first get the latest stats then load.
> 5. Anything else I'm forgetting.
Much, but my main focus will first be adding SMTP, for two reasons, one
for delivery and the other to add a mail2remail module. But again,
don't expect this real soon, running Cotse means that I can only work on
n2r when there are lulls. I really only progress in large steps when I
can bury myself in the coding to the exclusion of all else for periods
of time, picking at code here and there will delay final product.

Well, I had time to code a bit. I'm ready to release a beta for the GUI
version. It does all, download, install, configures itself and
mixmaster, sends, and more, plus it is a standard windows GUI. Provided
it works on more machines than just the test machines, I think people
will like it. It does hold promise and I left a hook in to add the SMTP
listener. The new version is called 2Remail and I should be releasing
the first beta sometime in the next couple days.

Fantastic! Looking forward to it. I'm having a blast with the
current version as is.
