Very few posts in apas lately, and test posts are taking a long time
to get to the test newsgroup or are not making it at all.

Is there a problem with gateways? Is the CIA testing a partial shutdown
of anonymous remailers as aiding terrorists? Something else?

There's nothing much to talk about. The old threads have died off, and
no new subjects have emerged to discuss.

There's nothing wrong with the remailers or gateways.

You seem to be living in a paranoid delusion. If the CIA have the
capability to control remailer traffic to the extent that they can shut
it down, why would they shut down a network that would be under their
control? Far better to watch it instead.

There is no evidence that terrorists have ever attempted to use the
remailer network. Computers found in the investigation of September
11th found that they communicated through unencrypted regular Hotmail
accounts.

I know for a fact that remailers have been used to claim certain
terrorist acts.

"Claim" != "claim honestly"

Investigations of terrorism, serial killers, etc., are often hampered
by false claims of responsibility from cranks.

Well if you claim a few minutes *before* the actual 'event' I beg
to differ ...

Good point! Could you give some references for this event?

Without some sort of proof that's a bit like saying "I know for a fact
Alex de Joode is a space alien who genetically engineers hamsters for use
in his diabolical plot to conquer Earth." ;)

Just FYI, well... everyone's information I suppose... your version of
GunPG has been found to have a pretty serious vulnerability that allows
someone to make it appear as though "altered" text has a valid signature.
More specifically it might allow someone append or prepend text to an
in line signed message or an encrypted and signed message.

There's a v1.4.2.2 upgrade available at gnupg.org and most mirrors by now.

Here's the announcement:

This is the first I've heard of that. I had no idea.

I should have guessed, though. "de Joode" sounds kind of alien.

No, that's his hamster name. His space alien name is more like
<click>whirrrr drak<tik>. Loosely translated that's "Master of all
hamsters and a snappy dresser".

Oh, it happens every year around this time. As soon as the CIA pays
the remailer operators their early Easter bonus they shut up shop
and head for the ski fields. Just be patient, they'll be back in a
few weeks once they've blown all their blood money.

PS How come your article's Subject header began with a lower-case 's'?
