BINGO!

You win the door prize!

The bug is in this "auto-configuring" package. It does
require user input to rout all traffic through the proxy
after all.

I had this manually configured in my old installation and
didn't think about it when I "upgraded" to this "automatic"
integrated package on my new notebook.

Thanks for the solution and this should be passed along to
the persons responsible for this installer.
