Author Question about anonym.os and GPG

-----BEGIN TYPE III ANONYMOUS MESSAGE-----
Message-type: plaintext

I've booted up the anonym.os live CD and I find it
to be impressive if a bit cumbersome and slow.

I noted that there is a directory (folder?) called
GPG and in it there is a configuration file and
two 0 byte file for keys.

Is there a GPG program on the disk, and how could I
access it (make it run)? How could I access my keyfiles?
My C: drive is formatted with NTFS.

Also, is there a way to make an encrypted volume file
on the C: drive with anonym.os (IOW, is there a program
like TrueCrypt on the CD)? If there were, would it
work with the NTFS formatted C: drive?

I saw another live CD based on the Bart CD that had such
features including PGP, XNews, and other frequently used
Windows programs, but unfortunately I couldn't get it to
connect to my wireless router (whereas the anonym.os
CD connected without a hitch).

Thanks,

Persona

How about a link to that CD? I'd like to check it out.

Live CD's are that way. Good for temporary and experimental use,
frustrating for anyone use to anything but an ancient 8088. Tor doesn't
help the situation any either, but hey..... it's anonymous and secure.

Live CD's usually do create "placeholder" files for commonly accessed
programs to avoid errors. I'm not real familiar with Anonym.OS, but I
would guess that something like GPGMe is loading and needs at least some
file to touch. Just a guess. The placeholders might be there for some
other reason.

Try opening a terminal and typing 'gpg --version' without the quotes at
the prompt. You can try 'which gpg' too, which should give you the path to
your GnuPG executable. From there it's a matter of RTFM. ;)

As far as fancy graphical front ends and plugins you'll have to poke
around on your own.

Don't know if Anonym.OS has native support for NTFS (HPFS?) file systems
or not. Again, a little RTFM is in order. You might also want to try 'man
mount', which will at least get you up to speed on the way *nix handles
setting up access to its devices.

If all else fails, a suitable alternative might be to put your key rings
on a removable device like a USB thumb drive and quickly edit your
~/.gnupg/options file to point to that device after it's been mounted.

Not with an NTFS drive as far as I know. BSD does have the ability to
create encrypted file systems though. They won't be accessible from your
Windows setup though.

Here again, a suitable alternative might be a FAT32 partition with
individually encrypted files or similar. That should be universally
accessible without much bother at all.

Plus, it's not Windows. <grin>

I meant a link to the Bart PE CD with pgp, Xnews, etc.

I wish I could, but it was configured by a friend of mine.
He simply took the time to put all of the bells and whistles
on the BartPE drive (including TrueCrypt), but the
programs and links were put on a TrueCrypt Encrypted
Volume file that would fit onto a USB keydrive.

With the necessary registry entries for PGP, Mozilla
Firefox, TOR, Privoxy, and a couple of other programs.
XNews requires no registry entry, but is included in the
USB Keydrive.

Like I said before, it works on virtually any computer
but mine since there doesn't appear to be any way
for my wireless network setup to be setup with BartPE.

[I'm sure there probably is, but it seems to have escaped
my otherwise brilliant friend.]

Too bad your friend is so selfish.
