To use this method to access the server, simply point your reader at
news.bananasplit.info using the default IP port of 119.
Man, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I followed this instruction
to the "T", but to no avail. I get the following error...
"10061 Connection Refused."
I use Xnews and I access a dozen other servers, but Banana just
doesn't work for me. What's the secret?
Thanks in advance.
E.

Hmm, you've got me there. I don't know what the secret is either, I
just connect to it like any other news server. Can you telnet to it on
119?

I don't know how it could be related, but your SSL certificate on the
newsserver is also expired :-)

This is on my TODO list for when I get home. At the moment I'm in
Copenhagen and certificates are something I prefer to do from closer to
the machine. Should be later this week.

Why aren't you more like Frog-Admin? He would have fixed it remotely
with pcAnywere or by instructing the old lady next door how to do it.

Let's face it, none of the current crowd is as good as Frog.

Please elucidate so the current crowd can become as good as Frog. What
particulars made him so fabulous?

Eelbash loved Frog because he was snoopy, sneaky, disingenuous, and
deceitful, too. He made Eelbash's snooping and insane behaviour seem more
reasonable.
The only difference is that Frog wasn't stupid, and didn't assume that
everyone else was stupid, the way eelbash does. Eelbash is convinced s/he
is the smartest, cleverest, most best-est ever, and no one would ever see
through his schemes.

Absolutely. Nobody is as good as Frog at flooding this newsgroup, putting
peoples addresses that complain about abuse in the headers of posts,
censoring and logging emails and posts, inventing new words to add to
the English language, and spreading FUD about Mixmaster developers to
try and keep people using the insecure cpunk protocol.

Eelbash would have succeeded too, if it wasn't for those
pesky mentally ill psychopathic kids!

>What particulars made him so fabulous?
He wasn't 'fabulous', he was just a superb remop, worthy of emulation:
1) very good technically
high uptime
broke the semi-monopoly of m2n gateways, encouraging others.
2) obviously cared greatly about the email entrusted to him and the
health of the remailer system.
was the only remop that I know of who recycled bounces.
provided source changes to make Reliable more useful
provided his own utilities to make running a remailer more
efficient
filtered garbage that people tried to get past his remailer -
Frog had a mature awareness that remailer operators would
play into the hands of remailer-haters by allowing floods and
other crap to go through in the name of some half-baked
'Absolute Freedom Of Speech'.
many remops then, and now, seem to think that freedom of speech
is sovereign, no matter what the larger cost to remailers or the
personal harm to victims; in other words, they show extremely
poor judgment.

Unfortunately not. Anonyma was eelbash, and sadly he really does think
that Frog was the greatest remop ever. He's stated that before, under
his own name. It's sad, but true.
