Config QS to send to usenet
|
|
| Viator 2006-05-17, 1:12 am |
| I'm running the lastest version of Quicksilver, and am trying to set
up a config message that directs my mail to be sent to
alt.anonymous.messages. The last block is set up as follows:
Anon-To: mail2news@anon.lcs.mit.edu
Latent-Time: +0:00
Encrypt-Key: passphrase_a
##
Subject: some sort of subject line is required
Newsgroups: alt.anonymous.messages
I got the above format from
http://www.geocities.com/qssnipe/ny...CREATION_REQUES
When I try to set up the config that way, Quicksilver balks and
identifies the address as an 'unknown remailer'. I tried several
mail2news addresses and got the same error message.
Is Quicksilver unable to direct mail to usenet, or am I doing
something wrong?
Thanks for your help!

Just follow the directions in QuickSilver's Nym Manager. It does it all for
you.

Well, doesn't that give you a hint?

You have to send it to a remailer, not a mail2news gateway, the remailer will
see to the posting.
By the way, why not use subject-encryption as well?

Well, it is the most inner layer of crypto that must send to the m2n
gateway. It should not be visible at all! The Latent-Time and
Encrypt-Key directives are something the mail2news gateway doesn't know
how do deal with. They are Cypherpunk AKA Type I remailer directives.
Just think of it this way; What is supposed to do the encrypt-key
directive here? Answer, the last remailer.
Most nym servers have a co-hosted remailer. If it is not middle you
could try to exit from that as your last hop (for speed)
Or you could try and lose the cypherpunk directives.
I have never tried it, but it is very possible that Quicksilver has
build in nym funtionality so you don't have to worry about all this.
See http://www.cotse.net/users/bluejay/.../nymconfig.html on how
this works.
http://vmsbox.cjb.net has another tutorial, but it seems to be down.

Thomas
