That is untrue, I just don't sugarcoat anything nor did I ever try to
make it try to sound better or safer than it really is. Instead I
launched the service being brutally honest about what we could and could
not provide. I even detailed exactly what information is kept and show
examples. I believe that a user should be well educated.

This is nothing that I haven't said for years, even before launching
Cotse. These services should be brutally honest about their
capabilities. I even proved you could be successful doing such. There
was a point in time that findnot's admin was in here arguing with me
about how their service really was anonymous and had no logs at all.
Since then even they added the following to their page:

"We keep logs for a maximum of 5 days to protect the system from being
used for abusive purposes. Official requests for information/subpoenas
normally require more than 5 days. Usually it would take someone more
than 5 days to even figure out where we are, and then serving a subpoena
would require even more time. We have never actually been served with a
lawful subpoena."

Anonymizer has also changed the wording in their FAQ. Others have
quietly removed claims of anonymity. It would be nice if all documented
with examples exactly what information they do retain, perhaps that will
come next.
