Author trouble setting up hashcash for panta
Anonyma

I've installed the hashcash software (on Linux). Panta website

http://www.panta-rhei.eu.org/hashcash/index.html

says the header should like this

X-Hashcash: 0:03091422:panta-rhei:0d13dc41b034506f

but the program output looks very different!

$ hashcash -m -b 27 -e 60 -X panta-rhei
X-Hashcash: 1:27:060630133253:panta-rhei::kxAsch0XMi3ZUz3r:0aaCL

What am I doing wrong?

This is a version 0 token.

This is a version 1 token.

Nothing, just a newer version of the client software and an older
version of the panta docs.

There are also three ways of 'compressing' a version 1 token to add to
the confusion (with the -Z option).

See http://hashcash.org/docs/hashcash.html

On second thought, this is very bad. You created this token on 30th June
2006, 13:32 and 53 seconds. I have no idea how that happened.

Try -z 6
and -a -3d
on top of what you are using

That should give you less chance of partitioning yourself,

Try this:
$ hashcash -m -b 27 -r panta-rhei -e 60 -X

creates something like this:
X-Hashcash: 1:27:060630:panta-rhei::GPwfJQeKnfbNiWTA:000000BqylN
which is exactly how this message got to you.

Hashcash seems to have preference for parameter order and as Thomas said,
version one does look different than version 0.

Thanks!

Will panta's present remailer/mail2news accept the version 1 token?

or do I need to add to my own confusion (compress)?

Don't think so...

The version of Hachcash (v1.8 ?) supplied with latest source of
Panta's Reliable v1.0.6rc2 is a version which only verifies hashcash
version 0 stamps.

No, panta definitely *does* take version 1 stamps. This token:
X-Hashcash: 1:27:060624:panta-rhei::9/GRMaLoh1HOpE5J:G0Ox
(compressed with -Z 1) was minted with hashcash v1.22 and is how this
message got here. Panta probably has upgraded hashcash numerous times on
his servers regardless of which version is included in his minter.
