Reliable v1.0.6rc2 panta problem
|
|
| remailer@invalid.com 2006-08-22, 7:16 pm |
| I'm running Reliable v1.0.6rc2 panta in a testing / 'make my own stats' situation on win98se.
I normally keep Options | DOS Mode set to 'Hide' but once in a while, for no reason that I can figure out, it will switch by itself to 'Min with Focus', which means the DOS boxes with Mixmaster and PGP jobs going sit minimized on the taskbar untill I come
in and notice them, stop Reliable and un-minimize them and change Reliable's settings back to what I want.
This inevitably leads to having a 'Winoldap' or two in the task manager that needs to be killed before Reliable can be restarted.
I've seen this happen several times in a day with nobody touching the machine, and then I've seen it go weeks without happening at all no matter how much the machine is used.

win98se cannot handle more than about 70,000 files before it starts

This is happening here as well, i have no idea why.
However, it should not stop processing, it just does not hide the dos box.
Check all the settings, and set it to "min with focus" manually to see why
it pauses.
As i said, it should just continue processing with a visible dos-box coming
up and vanishing again for each processed message.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,

A wild XXX guess would be that diffrent "DOS" functions are called
differently in different scenarios. Almost all programming languages
provide more than one than one way to skin this proverbial cat, due to
the fact that sometimes you need to trap errors, sometimes not, capture
output, detach from the console, run as a new process, etc... etc..
etc...
It could even be triggered by certain messages being encrypted with
certain types of keys or such.

It happens to me also. I have no clue what triggers it. And it is just as you
say, weeks without it then suddenly it has changed. I run XP Pro and can simply
pull down the Reliable window and change it. Sorry but happy to hear I am not
the only one to experience it.
Still on the road 16/7

What 70K files are you talking about?
Surely not the entire file system, though if you are, I'm still ok:
>Total files listed:
> 30,860 file(s) 5,098.61 MB
> 8,313 dir(s) 6,610.27 MB free
(not counting hidden/system files)
If you're talking about the number of msgs processed since last reboot, I usually reboot every couple of days (I understand about w98 needing frequent reboot, been doing it for years)
honestly, I think the problem is elsewhere.

It sounds to me like you're on to something there.
hmm... possible perhaps if control characters in message or temp file being processed
could bollux mixmaster or Relidos?
