Sorry about this, the News server has been struggling for some time now,
consuming huge amounts of CPU and frequently locking up. Despite my
best efforts, I've been unable to determine the cause.
This morning I've completely rebuilt the News server from source and
started it with a clean spool. It's running fine at the moment but only
time will tell if the issue is fully resolved.

Yes, my recompile didn't fix things so I tried compiling without TLS to
try and isolate the problem. That didn't help so it's back to square
one. I'll try compiling without PERL support next but I want to be
close to the machine when I try that and I'm currently stuck in a boring
hotel room that charges outrageous fees for Internet access.

The server has been failing to connect here too for several days.
(And I have my doubts about the panta-rhei nymserver, too -- I've been
able to post *through* the remailers in my reply block, but haven't had
any acks or any incoming mail at all for a week or so...)

Hi Christian,
Nice idea! The local groups now propagate in both directions between
news.bananasplit.info and news.mixmin.net. The local.lists hirarchy is
read-only but the others, such as local.feedback are writable from both
sides.

I beg its pardon; the remailers may have been working, but the reply
block clearly had something amiss. Submitting a new reply block seems to
have cleared the nym up for two-way usage :-)

I get a 502 access denied error when trying to read
local.lists.remops.
local.feedback seems to work okay.

It works now. I don't know what you mean by not allowing read access
for non-TLS though, as I was originally trying to access it through a
TLS connection when I was denied.

I tried resetting the post numbering system in case your various
overhauls had restarted everything from zero, but it makes no
difference; it just tries to fetch for about five minutes, then gives
up.
Has anything else changed on the server?

I'm afraid news.bananasplit.info is at best, erratic at the moment. I'm
trying to isolate why the server keeps locking up but so far nothing has
come to light.
At the moment I'm contemplating migrating everything off the server and
then rebuilding it from scratch. Until I get around to that, I'd
suggest using news.mixmin.net as an alternative.

Having said that, I did get a successful download of ten or so postings
in alt.privacy.anon-server.stats today -- all from "Estragon". Have all
the other stats posters gone home?
