So you think blogging anonymously with tor is a waste of bandwidth and
you using a remailer to say so is somehow... ehum... be.tter??

On the other hand, the thing has errors.
in: "STEP SIX - MIXMASTER, INVISIBLOG AND GPG"
It mentions invisiblog, however that site has been down nearly a year
now. The author also admits to an inability to successfully use
mixmaster which means they can't really say anything useful about it.
The document also makes no mention of freenet, which is a pretty good
way to blog anonymously.

This guide on how to blog anonymously was released before invisiblog
went away. I read about that guide on alt.privacy years ago.

It does tell us one useful thing; mixmaster needs to be easier to use.

Unfortunately freenet is pretty useless for a blog that you want lots
of people to read. You need to be running the software for a start. Tor
and things like that allow people to publish blogs accessible to the
world at large without special software being needed to read them.

Longer than that, I thought.

What's worse, it doesn't mention the Eelbash blog.
You can go to http://eelbash.yi.org:8080/blogmain/
using tor, and post immediately to a communal blog - no signup,
no delay, no way you can be identified.
Or set up your own blog using quicksilver and mixmaster.
Here is a quick set of instructions. You will probably still have
a question or two after doing the setup. Don't hesitate to come
back here and ask; the good folks and gurus of apas will be glad
to help.
Use your browser to download Quicksilver from
ftp://quicksilvermail.net/pub/quicksilver/QS1.2.6b2.exe
Run the setup program that you downloaded.
During setup, it will prompt you to download Mix, an additional
program that will do the encrypting / decrypting, and will also
download lists of pingers, and a list of current remailers
and their keys.
Don't worry about what pingers or remailers are; just let the
program do its stuff. It will install Mix, and copy in the
remailers, keys, etc.
Once that's been done, and it's pretty automatic, you can start
sending anon messages, allowing Quicksilver to pick the most
reliable remailers.
Try sending your test messages to a test group such as misc.test
or alt.test.

I don't think that should count as an error :-) More like a deliberate
omission!

Given it's been down a few times and on at least two different
addresses, and the fact that there are only a few blogs on it... that's
probably just as well for now.
Let it still be up a year from now on the same address and have a couple
dozen regularly updated blogs on it ... without any of the writers going
to jail or being outed at all.

I remember seeing it before as well. I wonder how often it gets
revised?

I find that mixmaster really IS pretty easy to use. It just needs
tutorials aimed at showing the uninitiated how to use it. Ideally by
walking them step by step through installation, updating stats, sending
messages. Along with a few screenshots something like that would go a
long way toward making mixmaster more 'user friendly'

True, freenet is a special case, but I believe it still has it's uses.

I could have sworn that QS 1.2.7 was just released...
In fact, looking at ftp://ftp.quicksilvermail.net/pub/quicksilver/ I see
that it was released earlier this month. (it's probably also the last QS
release as well.)

#####
QuickSilver Update History
2007-04-09 13:33 v1.2.7
1) Changed the program to use nymserver addresses from QS Personal PGP
keyring rather than cpunk keyring. This changed is required because of
the change in handling stats. See 2) in last update. That change causes
the nymserver keys to be lost. There is also a new QSnym update tha uses
the personal keyring rather than cpunk keyring.
2006-10-11 12:58 v1.2.6
This is the final QS update. It is basically intended to upgrade the
program to non-beta status. However, I have done a couple things.
1) Fixed an access violation sometimes encountered when updating
pubring.mix.
2) I have eliminated the mixmaster problem keys window. You will no
longer have to deal with these keys. Now, you will be informed of new
keys present during the download, in the Remailer Dialog, as always. On
clicking Ok to close the Remailer Dialog, the entire new pubring.mix
will replace of the existing pubring.mix. I am sure most of you will
appreciate this. For those who prefer the earlier system, just don't
upgrade. There is no other new functionality.
2005-10-01 00:55 v1.2.6b2
After some general problems with the socks proxy support in the last
release I pulled it. I've gone over everything carefully and I think
there should not be problems with this release. However, it is still
beta. Please report any bugs you encounter.
#####
Maybe Eelbash Admin doesn't know that a release version is better than a
beta version.
