What was your point? That things get used in a different way than

So the remailer network is designed so it is completely anonymous so
corrupt governments that don't give their citizens even basic human
rights can't trace an email or post back through the network.
How then do you suppose the remailer network could be designed so that
corrupt governments can't trace anything back, but an email or post
that someone such as yourself finds offensive can? It would be
impossible.
It's either anonymous for everyone, or anonymous for nobody.

The price is well worth paying; the cost in time for you to killfile
postings is very small. The alternative options such as taking away the
posters choice to be anonymous are not attractive.
btw. I didn't say abuse complaints are of no importance. I commented
that sending abuse reports that are nothing but cut and paste jobs are
not likely to get much attention from any service admins, anonymous or
otherwise.

Sorry I don't understand this comment. Are you suggesting that a few
anonymous posts are comparable to the Holocaust? If so, your life needs

If you had read between the obscenities of the post I pasted above you
would see the parallels clearly enough for yourself. The Holocaust was
not only about the Jews. It was about ridding the world of the
disabled, the minorities, the arbitrarily chosen because they did not

I think this highlights the original issue which was that of making an
abuse complaint with nothing more than a cut and paste. I understood
your problem to be that *you* didn't want to read those messages and
working on that assumption I supplied you a list of addresses to
killfile. Now it appears that I missed your target which is that you
want to ensure that *nobody* reads anonymous postings. Is that correct?

I have no problem with anonymous posters at all. In fact I approve if
it means that those who wish to share their specialist knowledge
freely with a wider audience can do so without having to share their
identity if this causes professional embarrassment. I would have no
problem with personal anonymity online for all except those who freely
choose to share their true identity.
I just have an overwhelming sense of unfair play when a cyber nazi
uses an anonymous remailer to attack somebody (who is permanently
disabled) with slanderous and obscene accusations on a daily basis.
I imagined (rather naively) that the obscene post under the alias of
Borked Pseudo Mailed (which I pasted here) was ample evidence that a
complete nutter with nazi tendencies was loose in the system.

According to everyone annoyed by a usenet poster the answer to this
is "very soon" and has been the answer for the last ten years or
so. In reality, anonimity is going no where. Laws won't stop it,
nothing will. Even in the most restricted of societies, like
China, people are still getting away with bad mouthing others
anonymously.
Those lacking the intelligence to ignore that which they can't
control will stomp their feet, yell, complain, whine about all the
evil it allows, and the least intelligent will even try to fight
what they see as abuse with abuse (not smart enough to realize all
that does is make them an abuser), but after it's all said and
done, people will still be able to be anonymous.

Fine, so there exists an irony (of sorts). What do you expect any reader
of this newsgroup to do? Do you expect the remops to change their policies
and no longer operate truly anonymous services so that your anonymous
troll can be silenced? Or do you expect the exit remailer (BPM) to filter
content? If so, what exactly should be the basis of filtering? Content
offensive to anyone, or just to you? Do you appreciate enough about how
Type II (Mixmaster) anonymous remailers work to understand that those are
their only two options? Do you also understand that "Borked Pseudo Mailed"
is the default user name for any post exiting from the Borked remailer?
I have an alternate suggestion: ignore the troll. Do this by ditching
Google Groups and using proper newsreader software. Many options exist for
Win*, but since you already use Firefox, why not use Thunderbird for
newsgroups? You can always find a free newsserver to use. Once you have a
real newsreader, you can employ filters to eliminate all posts from
remailers, or any particular remailer. Advise anyone else affected by
these posts to do the same. You'd be amazed at how quickly most trolls
give up when no one responds to their japes.
