Author Can't Anon Post Via QS. Help!

I am a QuickSilver user, and have been trying for a couple of WEEKS now
to post messages, and NONE of them EVER show up, not ONE. QuickSilver
goes through all of the motions, but nothing gets posted no matter WHICH
chain happens to be selected.

(If the above text looks familiar, it is because I posted an almost
identical message on 16-May-2007! See my Usenet Newsgroup posting,
Message-ID <Pine.LNX.4.61.0705200046070.6767@Bfjrtb.SbkInyyrl.arg>.
The problem -- whatever it is -- has returned.)

I use "bananasplit" for the stats., "mixmin" for the server, and "borked"
for the exit remailer. I have deleted all the remailer documents ("Tools"
-> "Remailers" -> "Delete" button) and then updated them -- all to no
avail. I am at a loss! Help?????

What happened to Richard's support mailinglist?
He said apas was no use in answering QS questions.

I'm posting this with QS.

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling QS? I just had to do that with
my PGP program. Programs get corrupted from time to time.

If all the help you get here doesn't solve your problem, I suggest the
above line of action.

Here is the URL for QS help from its author

Don't see why that would make a difference, since it DID work for about a
week, using the same template. Still... my template (edited for privacy)

Remove mail2news@anon.lcs.mit.edu, mail2news@freedom.gmsociety.org
Remove X-Himmel: "Nickname" <Address@Here.XXX>
Remove Sign-On: Address@Here.XXX
Remove Distribution: world
Remove Followup-To: And.The.Newsgroup(s).Here
Change copies to 2 or 3, 10 is excessive, not necessary and
might be causing spam filters to kick in.
You might also want to try removing Banana.

I'm very dubious, but I'll try it.

Now that I WON'T do, not unless it's proved that that's the source of the
problem -- those are standard newsgroup headers!

Interesting possibility about the filters! I'll reduce the copies to 5 (3
strikes me as too few).

> You might also want to try removing Banana.

I'll try that if the other things fail -- banana came highly recommended!

Thanks for the suggestions! Let's hope they help...

Distribution world is the default and followup is only needed if you
want replies to go to another group.

I use 2 all the time and never have a problem.

You do want random remailers in case one is having a problem.
If banana in your case is having one, nothing will go through.

This guy is a troll/idiot.

I posted Christman's QS help link for him last week, but he'd rather
WHINE & WHINE.

I think he's an anti-QS troll.

I subscribed to the QS Support List (QSList) -- thank you for the link --
but I haven't gotten much help there. (That is -- to be clear -- I got a
REPLY, but the advice it contained hasn't proven helpful to me.)

You are FAR too quick to judge, and ENTIRELY too quick with the pejorative
"troll". Also, since you insist on posting anonymously, you must surely be
a coward and a moron. (Turnabout is fair play: *I* can play the Pejorative
Game, too!) How about a truce?

Well, I'll say THIS much: If I'm not able to post anonymously pretty soon,
I'm certainly going to end up being anti-QS, all right!!!

I don't know what your problem is, but maybe try this.
Remove the Chain entirely and send an email to yourself.
If it doesn't arrive, then your problem would appear to
be the Host.

I guess that since you wanted to use QuickSilver, you also want to be a
'coward and a moron.'

But since you cannot get QS working, you must be a DUMB coward and
moron.

At least us plain cowards and morons have gotten QS to work for us.

That's at the other end. Posting. Panta won't post without the
HashCash token - which I also find inconvenient.

I think you could and it might still work, but I use it this way
and it works even better than hotpop most of the time. There's a lot
of tricks here - you could even use tor if you write the line correctly.
I don't need to use tor however. At least not for this kind of message.

I seem to recall some templates using a specific port, but this one
works well, so I see no reason to change.

Sure, you're allowed. It's one of the great free services these people
provide. Of course the ones that allow you to send mail through their
remailer's smtp servers have them configured so that we can only use them
for messages bound for the remailer network. Here is the list of those
which currently allow it:

http://www.noreply.org/tls/

I'm pretty sure the table at the above link will baffle you no end, but
right now I can't write three pages in Newbie-ese on how to use that
information in QS in all configurations. I'll just trust that you'll
either figure it out or come and ask SPECIFIC questions. None of us has
the time to hand-feed every single template for every single situation to
anybody. Just believe me, QuickSilver and the remailer network are fine
(if a bit short on servers at the moment).

Us? The only dummy here who is frustrated is you, you anti-QS troll.
There are too many QS users in here who are quite satisfied with it.

Dare I guess - eelbash - is - this hateful troll?

There is a template page here.
https://www.cotse.net/users/bluejay...usenetpost.html

The remailers have changed, but otherwise the templates should work.

However -

I have found myself unable to post through many of the remailers. I
since have placed the name of those remailers I have found to work as
the exit remailers in my chain. This solved my problem. Samples are
below.

The remailers I have found to work for me as exit are -

I have very little luck with others.

150 total routes, 86 of them good. A dismal 57.34% overall success
rate.

The awxcnx remailer added to the results.

The deuxpi and dingo remailers removed from the results due to shutdown.

The bikikii remailer and gateway, the lcs gateway and the hastio
remailer
were down during this round. All marked as BAD. Hastio should return
shortly.

The most improved award goes to metacolo, picking up 4 new good routes.

Just to make sure it's clear, my comment "A dismal 57.34% overall success
rate" doesn't mean that one could expect 42.66% of remailed Usenet postings
would fail. That's only the percentage of individual, identifiable routes
which succeeded during this test. It includes combinations which are
arbitrarily tested even though I know the certain remailers/mail2news are
completely down. So if you look at it a different way, if I use
combinations which *aren't* marked as BAD the success rate is 100% and
there are 86 of those.

Suppose that using 10 copies for messages in QuickSilver HAS
caused remailers to treat these messages as Spam; is there
any remedy for this? Are Spam filters ever reset, or must
this unfortunate user remain effectively blacklisted forever?

I don't know about filters, but copies 10 is excessive and not necessary.

Beats me, but I know that if you have your shit together one copy is all
that's ever needed.
