| Zero was shut down by the USA Security Agencies, reason unknown. The Admin is in jail. Somebody, probablykid made a threat against the President. The matter is under investigation. The admim has admitted to diddling kids.
There are no other Web Based Remailer Inferfaces. You will have to set one up on your box

I have to wonder if it's really safe using a Tor hidden service which
is also a well known public service, or if it's really just an illusion
of security....?

I think, it is little bit more secure, to use a TOR hidden service
website than a public website via TOR. You avoid sniffing bad exit nodes
and it hides the user-traffic of my server.
This hidden service does not hide the website, but only the traffic of
the users. It is a feature, nice to have, but you may use it or not.
I have TOR node running on the same server, so I offer a hidden service
for high anonymous use of my public website. I do not hide the website.
By the way: Does anyone have problems with the "quoted-printable"
encoding used by my server for anon emails? A user reported, his mail
client does not decode the anon email, but I can not verify this problem.
Greetings
