| Hello everybody
I am running omnimix on Ubuntu linux 7.04 with the latest wine
available. After having set up the minimal setting I've tried to send a
dummy message. That's what happened:

Why there are no file? Does anyone of you use omnimix on linux? If is
not possible to use it with wine what similar program should I use?
Thanks

Looks like Mixmaster was called without problems and returned no error
message.

They may be stored elsewhere.

Is there any output to the 'Mixmaster Data' list?
Which version of OmniMix have you installed?
Do you use the Mixmaster files that come with OmniMix, esp. is the
patched mixlib.dll file from 28 Jun 2007 located there?
Is there any QuickSilver installation around or are a 'MIXPATH'
environment variable or a 'MixDir' registry entry defined?
Are there other 'pool' directories on your harddisk that fill with
files while you're sending dummy messages?
Kind regards
Christian

I did not modify any setting about that. On windows does work.

Yes...Do you want me to post it?

The latest available, downloaded today.

I use mixmaster file that come with omnimix....where do I find that path?

No

I did not understand that... I am new to omnimix

Yes, that's important. Either you get a list of the chains Mixmaster
used to build the packets, which indicates that the files have to be
somewhere, or an error message hopefully leads to the cause of the
problem.

The path to this DLL file? You find the DLL in the 'mix' subdirectory
of your OmniMix installation. I mentioned it, as the definition of
'MIXPATH' and 'MixDir', e.g. done by a QuickSilver installation, makes
Mixmaster store the packets in a different 'pool' directory, which the
patched DLL version prevents. The symptom would be a normal Mixmaster
execution without errors, but without the creation of files in the
destined directory, thus similar to what you describe.

The 'mix\pool' folder is the place where Mixmaster stores the packets
it creates. After Mixmaster has finished, OmniMix loads them from
there and sends them to the remailer network. As I explained, e.g. a
preexistent QuickSilver installation may mislead Mixmaster so that it
puts its files to a different 'pool' directory where OM isn't able to
find them. But that doesn't seem to apply.

Here it is http://rafb.net/p/7frRZJ36.html. I think mixmaster (for win)
crashes if used with wine.

There is nothing in mix/pool...quicksilver is not installed.

So as long as I understand is not possible to use omnimix under linux
(by using wine). Are there no chance? If not which program could I use?
(similar to yours).
PS: I notice that omnimix, when acting as a smtp proxy, sends emails
immediately and makes the MUA go on timeout. Is not possible to accept
the message from the mua, sending an "ok" to it and then process the
message queue?

Too bad. As I'm no Wine / Linux expert I have no idea whether any cure
is possible. I read about some guy(s) that succeeded in running
OmniMix under Wine. Let's hope that wasn't a hoax. Does a direct call
of that Mixmaster version also result in an AV or is it only about how
a program is launched by another application run under Wine? Maybe
Linux experts join in.

Sorry, I have to pass those questions on.

No, it's not. OmniMix is designed to be a transparent proxy, which
isn't allowed to keep any data for later processing. Only this way
it's guaranteed that an "ok" in fact means an "ok" and not a
"perhaps". If you deactivate logging no compromising data should
remain within the OmniMix system after any sending attempt, whether
successful or not. To me a reliable immediate feedback seems to be the
strategy the most secure and easiest to handle.
Kind regards
