I want to access Gmail through Tor.
Will the Gmail cookies compromise my anonymity.
Thanks for all replies.

It will if you allow it to persist, and revisit Google naked. Your
anonymous Gmail account will be blown. So you have to either isolate
your Gmail usage from your "normal" usage, or make absolutely sure
every trace of your activity is cleaned up between anonymous and
non-anonymous sessions.

Removing all traces is easier said than done.

Your best bet is to use a completely different browser for your Gmail
activity. If you don't own a copy of Opera now might be a good time to
try it out. Or if you're running an operating system that has true
separation of account privledges (like Linux) create a user just for
anonymous activity. Another option is to run virtual environments like
VMWare or Virtualbox. Or "LiveCD" type setups that do everything in RAM.

I actually have a completely different machine for anonymous browsing
which I access using SSH -x display forwarding. I get a nice graphical
browser that runs entirely on the "anonymous" machine that's set up
with a firewall that disallows everything but Tor, and only displays on
my "main" machine. Nice because I can use it from anywhere I have an
internet connection.
