How to get mail links to open in a new Mozilla window
|
|
|
| When I was using Firefox & T-Bird, if I clicked on several links in an
e-mail, each one would open a new browser window. Now running Mozilla
1.7.11 (but still using T-Bird for mail) each clicked on link comes up
in the window originally opened, replacing it's contents.
Is this a settable preference in Mozilla? If so, I can't seem to find
it.

Right click on the link and choose New Window from the context menu.

The only options when I right click are: select all, copy link
location and save target as. This is on hpyerlinks.

I apologize, I was assuming you were using Moz Mail, although you
clearly stated TB. As they say, never assume. The context menu is
different in Moz Mail. TB, being a stand alone ap, can only do what Moz
allows it to do.
There is no such setting in the Mozilla UI. There is in SeaMonkey 1.0B,
so when SeaMonkey reaches a release status, this functionality will be
available.
There is one thing you can try. Type about :config into the browser
location bar.
In the about :config screen. right click and select new integer. The
name should be:
browser.link.open_external
Set the value to 3.
I suspect this will work, though I have not tested it.

I typed that in exactly as indicated, and thevalue of 3 does not
change the behavior. Firefox has 2 so I tried that as well as 1 and 0.
I also entered 3 additional browser.lnk.open_ entries as they
were in Firefox (same values) and none of this changes the
behavior.
BTW...I mistyped one and can't figure how to delete that entire
entry. The right click context menu doesn't offer deletion.
TIA

about :config will not delete a pref, it can only add them. Set the
value to nothing, and it will be as though it is not there. To delete
for real, you would have to remove the entry from prefs.js, in your
profile folder. This must done with Mozilla completely closed.
Form your experimentation, it would seem that this pref will not work in
Mozilla. You will have to wait for SeaMonkey 1.0 in that case.
