Author Bookmarks in new tab

Hi
I can't get Bookmark pages to open in a new tab in Firefox, unless I
middle click. I'd prefer the default left click to do this also. I've
looked at about:config and changed browser.tabs.opentabfor.bookmarks to
true but it made no difference.

Any ideas?

Did you restart?

Several tab related extensions make this easy. I've been using Tab Mix
Plus with good success.

It should be available without it though. In about :config, filter for
browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs, and make sure it is set to True.

Then Tools>>Options>>Advanced, and check the box for Select new tabs
opened from bookmarks or history.

You may need to restart FF for the pref to take effect.

Restarted Firefox but not Windows.

Yip it's set to True

I don't have that option.

I use TabBrowser Preferences but can't see any option for it there
either.

Try about :config, and filter for:

browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs

Set the value to true, and look in Options>>Advanced again, you should
see the option then. Why they hide them by default, I'll never understand.

Thanks. It was on True so tried setting to False, restarting then
setting to True and restarting. Didn't work sadly. Will try
uninstalling and reinstalling I think.

All your settings, bookmarks, preferences, etc are stored in your
profile, which is separate from the program directory. When you
uninstall and reinstall all you're doing is removing the program and
not touching the profile. So don't bother.

Which Profile? I was going to do a complete uninstall, i.e. use the
program uninstall, then search for files left behind and the registry.

You don't need to get out the sledge hammer just yet. ;)

Fist of all, start Firefox in Safe Mode:

Start>>Programs>>Mozilla Firefox (or Thunderbird)>>Mozilla
Firefox/Thunderbird (Safe Mode)

This will disable all your extensions, including TBP, and may allow you
to reset the prefs as I had indicated before (twice, yes I know gwtc.)

If that doesn't work, create a new profile:

To open Firefox's Profile Manager, click Start>>>Run, type firefox.exe
-p in the field, and click OK. Note the space after exe, it is important.

The new profile will have no extensions at all. Test in it to see if it
behaves as you wish.

As gwtc says, an uninstall/reinstall is very unlikely to help.

Your Firefox profile -- where your bookmarks, etc are stored. The
profile is separate from the program directory. When you uninstall,
it only uninstalls the program. It doesn't touch your profile. To
find out where your profile is located see this:
http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/edit#profile, but first your
profile is hidden, so you'll have to unhide window files. To do that
see this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...iddenfiles.mspx

I was going to do a complete uninstall, i.e. use the

As I said, don't even bother. You'll just be wasting your time. The
problem is within your profile. As Lee suggested, create a new/test
profile and test it out in that and see what happens.

Thanks. The new profile was the same so going to forget it for now and
will just remember to middle click.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Thanks, tried that but it does the same in the new profile. I'll just
have to remember to middle click.

Well, if you're willing to give up on TBP, Tab Mix Plus should allow you
to configure this.

.. . . but Lee should have added that TBP and TMP shouldn't be used
together. Conflicts can and do happens. So, install TMP into a new
profile.

I thought that was implied by "willing to give up on" but......
