can you explain what you mean by the secure sign?
Is this an artifact of the page or the program?

It may be that the site hasnt yet approved Firefox 1.0.4 for use yet,
and is indicating such

in the address bar a sign usually appears on secure sites, like the
padlock symbol in IE, if I hover the pointer over it then a box says
"signed by...."
trying with FF1.0.3 gets same result
quick check using hated IE proves site to be ok

All I get is a lock icon (grey) in the location bar when viewing a https
site
which Theme are you using?

Does the problem show up on other https sites?

Here, try this site
https://easyweb.tdcanadatrust.com/

that should give you the lock icon, is it red or green for you?
you wont be able to log in of course, but thats not important at this
point, am simply trying to get on the same page as it were to see what
you are seeing.

Hmmm, appears I will have to download the noia theme to get the same
indication as you and then try to reproduce the problem
hold on a bit

Well, that didnt help me much, I cant find a page to turn the lock icon
red, so I dont know what it indicates
Do you know any other pages that turn the lock icon red?

Thats what I am trying to determine, what exactly the red icon means or
indicates.
You are presuming it means insecure (and I am inclined to agree) but it
also may indicate something else (stronger encryption perhaps?)
If you find another https site with a red icon, let me know please

red icon is a padlock on red background with diagonal red stripe through it
symbol on secure site is padlock on green background with no stripe
dont think it means higher encryption
i've been trying to make sense of verisign site to see if it'll help but
got to go out now so back to sorting this later
thanks for help so far...S

Well, I havent actually had a chance to see the icon now, have I <g>
Thats why I wanted to see an example of it to determine what it stood
for, certainly does sound like it means no security.

The verisign site simply gives you the certificate status for the site
and tells you if its still valid

If you can find another page the provides the red icon, it would help a
great deal.

colour depends on the theme as well

Just recently got the "red symbol" with Hotmail (why I'm using it...).
It means that the page contains some secure and some insecure content.
If you have a banking site, the title and such are probably
unencrypted, and the forms are.

Mine is yellow as well. Am not aware of any security concerns.

Obviously, there are differences in platforms as well.
Neither am I aware of security concerns with 1.0.4, which is why I am
attempting to resolve the OPs dilemma

It really does sound like the icon is indicating non-secure, but I have
no idea of why. It may be a site issue, but to be on the safe side its
best to check it out
