I upgraded to 1.06 today. Now, my Norton Internet Security isn't allowing
Firefox to access the net. How do I alter the settings to allow access?
Funny, it didn't do this with previous versions. Thanks so much, I've looked
all over.

FWIW, I use the built-in XP firewall and it passed all hacking tests:

http://www.grc.com

All I had to do to pass the tests was to disable "ping" responses to
incomming ping attempts and disable port 445 (or was it 450? it's that
"messenger" port).

The built-in XP firewall does NOT handle outgoing traffic, only
incoming. If your system should get infected that firewall will not
stop outgoing traffic. My recommendation is to install the latest Zone
Alarm firewall and disable the Windows firewall.

I have used Zone Alarm Pro for years but the free version will work for
this level of protection. The free version is at:

XPSP2 firewall does do a bit but its nowhere near as secure as it could
be... for instance: iptables on linux is rock solid ;), and its built in
usually ;)

but seriously, check out kerio ;)

Linux user here too Just need Windows for some other stuff (VC++
and, uhm, Games).

Their free edition is more limited (it seems) than ZoneAlarm, which is
also the most recommended one on most reviews of security-related
websites. Just downloaded it; works fine. *But*, I would much prefer
an Open Source firewall. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any good
OS firewalls for Windows around... (Or *I* didn't find any...)
