Author History file disappeared between sessions

I closed FF 1.0.4 and reopened it a few minutes later. Didn't tinker
with any settings, but now the entire history file is gone and with it
the useful autocomplete for URLs. Pretty sad.

Anyone else ever experience this.

How many days have you set for History?

[Firefox-->Preferences]*-->Privacy-->History
Remember visited pages for the last XX days

*
Windows
Tools-->Options
Linux
Edit-->Preferences

It's always been set for 9 days (50mb cache file) and I reconfirmed
that it still was after the problem occurred. But I wasn't into the
settings at all during the session prior to the one where it opened
with a blank history file. BTW...it didn't disappear this morning

There is a known random glitch where History is lost. The rough summary
of the current hypothesis is that malformed history entries are created
during the browsing session, resulting in Firefox dumping the history
the next time it is started.

See bug 242207 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=242207) for
more info, but please don't post a "me too" comment.

Thanks for the info. Hope it can be fixed sometime soon.

Well I thought I'd give FF 1.5 a try. I had totally removed 1.0.6.
After about 3 days, this same thing has occurred. I see per Bugzilla
that I should just forget about Firefox until 2.0 is released since no
one is working on it.

Well after loading v1.5, this didn't happen for more than a month and
I thought it was fixed. But it just happened today.

I've learned to keep a large backup history file with my usual haunts
though. Nothing untoward seems to happen after I restored this 6
month old history.dat I have a lot of bookmarks, but the autocomplete
feature is nice to have some sites to use in history when I manually
start typing.
