Hi all....... I use Thunderbird as my usenet reader. How can I get it to
show whether a message has an attachment before I click on it. The paper
clip appears after I click the message but I want to know in advance
whether or not there is an attachment.

In the header columns, the one with Subject, Sender, Date, etc, off to
the far right, right above the scrollbars, you will see something that
looks like a bend arrow, click on that and it will give you a listing
of more columns to select. The one that you want is Attachment.

Yeah I have that showing... the problem is that it does not show the
presence of an attachment until after I click on the message. I want it
to show an attachment before I click on the message.

I'm assuming you mean Thunderbird 1.5 and that is the version I'm using.

We went over this at secnews a few months ago. I have never seen an
attachment paperclip before opening the message, and its most annoying.

Exactly.... I find it annoying as well. Maybe its something that should
be looked at for the next incarnation.

But its not consistent, others, like gw, do see the paperclip. We were
never able to isolate the reason.

I see the paperclip when messages arrive without clicking on them first
(Tbird 1.0.7). I also have the message pane turned off (F8) perhaps this
has something to do with it?
