Firefox will not even run. It is installed and used to work fine. But now
nothing happens when I attempt to start it up.(One thing I tried was ro
right click and select Run As - and that starts it - but it is surely not
the normal way of going)
Also it fires up when I click on an html file - as it then it will start and
it opens the file.

But

I suspected it was to do with malware. And I have had an issue with malware
popups - particularly Instant Access - a dialer. (This involves popups
connected with a gad-networks - and also http://scripts.dlv4.com/ It is
insidious stuff. Anyway I have embarked on a mission to remove all of that.

In the meantime I have to use IE.

I tried various programs such as Norton Internet Security - which simply
didn't even detect Instant Access - let alone remove it.
SpyBot detected and said it removed it - but it would always come back.
Now I have installed ZoneAlarm. It detected the malware and removed it - and
now gives me the all clear that there are no viruses or malware.

But still Firefox does not start up.

Any advice?

Close Firefox, backup your profile <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile>,
uninstall Firefox, wipe both the Firefox application directory and the
Firefox profile (the original), and reinstall Firefox.

Then close Firefox and migrate the most important parts of your profile
data into the new profile that Firefox creates.

Kaspersky Antivirus is one of the best AV programs. Buy that to get
cleaned up. Note, if malware is still on your system when you reinstall
Firefox, it can re-infect Firefox right after the reinstall.

Look around for "Evonsoft Advanced Spyware Remover Professional v1.87".
Not too long ago, I double-clicked on something which should not have
been touched, an in consequence ended up with some *extremely* nasty
things in my registry & temp folders, none of which I was able to delete
in the Old Fashioned way.

On the advice of a friend, I installed Evonsoft's app
(http://tinyurl.com/y5byak), after which all the particular nasty things
cleared up & went away.
