Hi, I'm trying to download some Firefox add-ons, such as adblock, but I am
getting a message across the top of the screen:
"Software installation is currently disabled. Click Edit Options...to enable it
and try again."
I have clicked on their button to Edit Options, but cannot find anything to
enable software installation.
Please help! Thanks.

in the address bar type in about :config and look for the entry of:

xpinstall.enabled

when found, double click on it and change it to true

Thank you; any idea why it's false and why we have to go through all that?

No, its because of a 'security fix' in previous versions. The xpi
install was defaulted to off to protect users from specific exploits,
now that other measures have been taken to correct or 'fix' the
exploits, the feature can be turned back on again.

AHA! I figured that there had to be a sensible answer.
Thanks.
