Blocking this M I 5 stuff?
|
|
| Gualtier Malde 2007-11-18, 7:11 pm |
| Hi - I can't find out how to block this stuff. Apparently we can set up
filters, but when I did it didn't work. I must be doing something wrong.
I've got 5 newsgroups all infested with this stuff.

filters only work for new and incoming messages, not
messages that are already there and downloaded previously.

True enough, but I set filters and then got more of them. Subject contains
"MI5" is what I have. Is that insufficient?

Think it's M15 not MI5. I had the same problem a while ago.

I think it is a capital 'I' not a number '1'. However you could use
either the word 'Persecution' or the morons address:
MI5Victim@mi5.gov.uk
Obviously not his address but sufficient to block him I'd imagine.
Meanwhile I'm going to e-mail the BBC and see if I can get Harry and
the guys from Spooks on the case, they'll soon track him down......
that'll stop him.... :-)

You're right. I know I had the confusion a while back and blocks got
rid of it. Now only see if I google up ng's. Easiest thing to do is
cut and paste to make sure grammar is correct.

Thank you all. I'll try more parameters on two NGs. Apparently
alt.comp.security has an NG manager because it doesn't show up there.

Put the filters on the server instead of individual groups and flush
them all. Keep hitting the + and put as many combinations of the
spelling you can think of. I's and 1's and l's (small L's). They will
all go under the single filter heading.

You won't have to worry about it any more for now. I just read in another
group that his ISP cancelled his account. He'll be back, though. He's been
at this for over a decade.

I respect his freedom of speech.
Sad many ISP's, and you don't.
As you are well aware you do not have to read posts you are
not interested in, so why deny people who like his posts the
oppertunity?
Whats your problem?

He has all the freedom of speech he can get, however his terms of
service with the commercial entity that he uses for an ISP limits what
he can spam online.

If everyone with a cross to bear posted in the same volume as he does

There is no such thing as spam.

Lord Turkey,
LIKE! You did say like didn't you. I can only assume therefore
you enjoy reading all the unsolicited rubbish that drops through
your letter box on a daily basis. I don't wish to start a war
here however it just fascinated me that someone could 'like'
reading spam/unsolicited mails etc.

Regardless of his content - he's posting completely unrelated material
to multiple newsgroups.

As I said, reading them is optional, can you not understand that?
It's the same with stuff throuogh the letter box, you don't have to
read it you know.
How come you are not trying to have the people who sent stuff through
you letter box banned? At least that makes a mess on the floor.
His posts are no inconvienience whatsoever.
Infact anyone who is troubled by them clearly has a bigger mental problem
than the poster.
Nobody in their right mind would be concerned about them.
It's symptomatic of a mental illness.

So you can clearly see the flow of logic.
Thats why it does it.
Not rocket science is it?
However for some of the more cerebalibaly challange people it may
take a while, posibbly a few decades, for them to graps the concept.
Stiill posters of all inteligence levels are welcome.

May I suggest that before you go mouthing off about mental
illness you consider who you may be speaking to. There are
many who would take that very badly indeed. I'm not one for
supporting political-correctness-gone-mad but sometimes a
line can be overstepped.

I'm not 'mouthing off' just pointing out a symptom of
mental illness. If that bothers anyone just go and see you doctor
and I am sure he will be able to verify your mental state.

Why? Are they seriously mentally ill?
Most who are would not recognise themselves as that anyway.
Those who are not would not be bothered.

if it bothers you that much, then perhaps you should go and
see your doctor and I'm sure he will be able to verify your
mental state about you getting so worked up about nothing.
