Backing up Firefox settings and search engines

| I have a PC running XP Home SP2, running Firefox 2.0.0.2. In the near
future, I may need to format my computer's hard drive and reinstall
everything....always a fun job. I have most of my files backed up on USB
flash drives.
I know how to back up and save Firefox's bookmarks. But what about
other Firefox settings, such as font size, download location, tab behavior,
RSS feeds, privacy options? Can these configurations be saved and exported
as well? In addition, I have several search engines installed. Having to
manually reinstall them all over again is quite a nuisance.

| This extension shows some promise. It doesn't work perfectly, but it
did restore my search engines, bookmarks and most of my Firefox preferences.
Passwords and cookies didn't fare as well:

Ignore that last post. I've been encountering some graphical
problems with Firefox (toolbar buttons invisible) since using this
extension.

I'm a big fan of MozBackup. Do a google search. Pretty useful program
in my book. Other puter is being reformated as we speak so when I'm
done loading OS and everything else I will use MozBackup to restore
T-bird and Firefox info...

I'm tinkering with that program now, although I'm a bit confused as to
how MozBackup could restore Firefox settings after a clean re-install of
Windows XP. Not sure which files would need to be backed up before
formatting a hard drive. The Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) is
much simpler, and I've worked out some of the bugs.

| I'm still using the Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE), and it
works fairly well. So far. I haven't encountered the graphical problem I
reported on yesterday. Using FEBE, I can back up and restore my bookmarks,
extensions, search engines, and some of my Firefox preferences, such as font
size, JavaScript, Tab and Download behavior. I have about 22 extensions
installed, and using FEBE, I can reinstall all of them in about 15 seconds.
Using FEBE, I cannot (as of yet) get it to restore my user ID's and
passwords, plus it doesn't restore other personal preferences, such as where
I placed the URL and Search Box fields. I still have to do this manually.
I posted about these glitches on the FEBE message board....still awaiting a
response.

why don't you use your zip program to back things up? Works just as
good as anything I can think of.

A good backup program will do things that a zip program probably won't.
It will, for a most important thing, backup files that are in use.
And, when using a scheduled backup, that's important to me as I may be
using the system at the time the backup runs.
Also, a good backup program offers lots of detailed backup and recovery
options that a zip program doesn't have.
Hey, YMMV. The most important thing is: BACK UP YOUR FREAKING
PROFILE!!! Nobody cares how as long as you do it regularly, frequently,
completely, and safely.
