Close Thunderbird completely.
Go into your Thunderbird-directory (under windows it's something like
"C:\Documents and settings\<User>\<...>\Thunderbird\Profiles\<random number>.default\News\")
I don't know the correct path in english Windows..
Choose the "news.rc"-File corresponding to the newsserver you use,
for example "news.datemas.de.rc" in your case (i assume).
Open this file with a plaintext-editor and you should see something similar to this:
de.comp.office-pakete.staroffice.writer: 1-21973,21975,21976,21979,21984-21996,21999
arcor.misc: 1-23844,23856,23859-23862
alt.os.linux.ubuntu: 1-10810,10885,10888,10991
Now delete all numbers between the first and the last one in each row
to make it look like this:
de.comp.office-pakete.staroffice.writer: 1-21999
arcor.misc: 1-23862
alt.os.linux.ubuntu: 1-10991
Save and close the file.
