It has slowed horribly and almost unusable.
I "view page in IE" and no problems. That is how I tested it.

How can I completely un-install Firefox, all traces, including the registry?

I'd like to start over.
I think a registry file is corrupt.

Any other way to fix this?

Thanks

You are talking about the hitting it with a sledge hammer approach.
Sometimes the sledge hammer is the tool of choice, bu you are not nearly
there yet.

Firefox writes so minimally to the windows registry that this is very
unlikely to be the problem.

Using IE as a test is okay, but better to use another non MS browser,
how about Opera?

Have you tried running FF in Safe Mode, to see if you find the same
problem? It may very well be an extension causing the slow down. Rule
that out before the massive hacking you are talking about.

Thanks Lee.

I will do the safe mode and then also get rid of my extensions.

If it runs fine in safe mode what will that tell me?
BTW: I have nothing running in the background at start-up.

Safe Mode disables all extensions, and returns to the default theme, if
you have selected a 3rd party theme. It is the first step in
troubleshooting a problem like this. If FF speeds up, you know there is
a problem with an extension. If not, the next step is creating a new
profile for test purposes. Lets take one step at a time.

I tried SafeMode and no change.
I erased all "add-ons" and no change.

Seems as if it uses up the memory quickly and the hard drive starts
working overtime while FireFox tries to grind it out slowly.
It hesitates when I type in message boxes. I mean a big hesitation.

IE is real fast with no problems.

This is a bummer.
I love(d) FireFox.

I asked about another error I had a while ago here:

Maybe it relates?

Do you have the Google Toolbar installed? If so, uninstall it.

New profile time, for a test:

To open Firefox's Profile Manager, click Start>>>Run, type firefox.exe
-p in the field, and click OK. Note the space after exe, it is important.

Create a new profile, and see if you encounter the same problems in a
new profile.

That worked!

It opened up "Minefield". I had installed the latest version of
Minefield in a desperate attempt to fix Firefox but not knowing what I
was doing or what it was.

Do I use Minefield Now?
Can I import my passwords from my old profile?
What does this tell me about what is wrong with my original?
Will the problem return?

Thanks Lee

Okay...I erased "Minefield" and I am now able to open "Firefox" and not
"Minefield" in a different profile.

It still works now.

Do I just erase the "Default User" and use the new profile?

If the new profile is working for you, and you don't have any data that
you need in the old profile, such as bookmarks and passwords, go ahead.

Minefield is a code name for the trunk nightly builds for testing
purposes. If you have been running Firefox and Minefield using the same
profile, it could have something to do with theb problems you have
encountered.
