printing from firefox
|
|
|
| Something very strange - when I print from any website on firefox, the
printer prints out say 15 pages of vary narrow column - instead of say 3
pages filling full width.
In print preview this shows up looking like a shadow box - I cannot
copy, cut and paste or figure out how to show you what it looks like.
To print something I have to get the page up in IE to get a proper
printout. This seems to indicate that there is nothing wrong with my
printer settings, or my computer - it prints emails from outlook
express, or word docs ok. ONLY when Printing a page from any firefox
site does this happen.
Any ideas how to fix this?? I print a lot of articles - mostly
columnists - get the page up, hit the print version icon, the print.
Does it perfectly in IE. I DO NOT want to go back to IE!!
I have already uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox. There must be some
setting in Firefox that does not uninstall - like the favorites list -
you uninstall then on reinstallation the same favorites are still there,
never have figured that out, but anyway if I knew how that worked, I
could probably fix the problem I have now.
Hoping for someone with experience with this issue to tell me how to fix
this most frustrating problem. I have already checked the page set up,
the font sizes etc.

Did you click "shrink to fit page width" in page setup after you are in
print preview?

Yes, even tried the various sizes - 100% etc etc. Won't work.

It happens at every URL. Doesn't matter. All web pages in firefox do the
same thing, in IE they print ok.

well documented by others in other Mozilla/Firefox newsgroups.

If it's only Fx that is affected by this, try "about :config" and filter
for "print".
Some settings might need a restart, so I'd do that in all cases where I
change a setting.
At least, an idea...

Thanks. Unfortunately I haven't a clue what about config is, where to
find, or how to filter it. Last thing I did with a filter was change out
the one in the car. I'll save your email and find someone who can do it,
or instruct me.

In the location bar (where you enter Web site addresses) type:
about :config and hit Enter. Notice the Filter bar above the main
window. You can type partial or complete keywords in there to filter
the list below. The suggestion above was to enter "print" (without the
quotes) and check the settings.

Thanks for your assistance. Been away. Hopefully Bob will tell us if,
and how, he solved the problem he had.

I just tried the about :config and did get to a long list of lines re the
printer, I could not find anything about settings, and the first group
all said default.
Afraid I am stuck until I get an expert here to look at it.

All those rows you see _are_ the settings, i.e., "settings" is not what
you should be looking for.
You change the value on a row (= a setting) by double-clicking on the
row.

| I fixed it! Tinkering around again and again, finally had the box up
that comes up when you hit print, checked the properties, found
something I had not noticed before, for some reason paper size said
organizer j - a drop down menu gave the option to change that to letter.
Fixed.
Thanks for you help though, nice to know this group is here.

It's usually something simple. The problem is to figure out what it is.
