Hey there all...is there anyone with an idea how to fix this?

I set my virus program (Symantec) to do a full system scan, went to
bed, and when I woke up this morning I found ALL of my email from the
last year had disappeared! I don't know if the scan had anything to do
with it...but what else might have caused this?

Any help anyone can toss my way would be fantastic. Many thanks in
advance.

couple of things to try first: first compact the folders
[under File]. Did that work? If not, then close the
program, and delete the *.msf files from the mail section of
the profile. Restart. Did that work?

If the above didn't work, then its a problem with Symantec
and you should either get help from them, or try asking in
their forum: http://www.topix.net/forum/com/symc

Surely not!!! If the mail has been accidentally deleted compacting the
folders, thus ensuring it is permanently deleted, is the last thing you
want to do. Start by checking the folder file size - assuming all the
disappeared mail in in one folder - to see if there is anything there.
If it looks large enough to be a year's e-mails then you can start to
look at ways to recover them but compact the folder - not until they are
all back and secure.

First, tell us what program you're using!

Find your profile. See: http://edmullen.net/Mozilla/moz_profile.html

With the mail program closed, delete all of the .msf files in the mail
account(s) folders.

Restart mail pgm. Emails back?

If not, look at the mail files in your profile. As Tony said, if they
look large enough in size to be what you want you can try recovering them.

Let us know what you find.
