are you trying to connect from a Windows XP machine with sp2?

As I'm having the same trouble. I can connect from a win xp sp1 machine
but not a sp2 machine. I've turned the firewall off(windows supplied) and
also tried with it on but with exceptions for the mysql port (3306) with
no joy.

I've looked on many forums and 'google' but no definate solution. I'd
love to get to the bottom of this one. Any other clues folks.....?

I can run mysql on my local machine and connect OK, but when I try to
connect to mysql on a different machine/server I get the 2003: can't
connect to mysql 'myHostName'(10060) error.

any clues on what settings I can change locally or on the mysql/apache
server.....?

very frustrated over this issue

Dave,

originally I changed the address using inetcfg...this resulted in the
Mysql server indicating that it was listening for address 10.0.6.23 is
the correct address of the server.

But to get it to work I changed the address back using:

http://serveripaddress:8008 *remote manager and selecting the
ipaddress management link on the left. scrolled down to where the Mysql
server ipaddress was detailed. Clicked on it and changed it back to
0.0.0.0 .... It now works. Previously and without success I had changed
it back to the loopback address in the my.cnf file.

OK, I've never used that IP management bit in NRM myself, I stick to doing
the various apps individually. Just checked, I haven't actually got any IP
addresses in my.cnf ?

Cheers Dave

Not sure what you mean here, you can connect from the one workstation to
the server or connect from mysql loaded on the server running mysqld ?

Is the login you are using allowed to connect from hosts other than the
one running mysqld ?, that is set in the mysql security config

Cheers Dave
