WEB Server / QuickFinder Authentication
|
|
| William Liporace 2006-01-24, 5:48 pm |
| Good Morning,
We have a WEB server running with a QuickFinder search page. We have
our QuickFinder set up with four indexes under Vol1:\WEB. Under WEB we
have for directories for the four departments.
I think I know how to turn on the security. I go to the servers Quick
Finder index page: http://ipaddress/qfsearch/SearchServlet? and see the
sign in button. I click on "sign it" and get prompted with "user name"
and "password". When I "click sign" in again, it brings me back as
public again.
Why is not logging me in?
It does have a RW replica.
What am I missing?

| No, it just goes back to the same page. It says "public"

OK. That means that it does not authenticate. How do you log in?
Username or full DN? What version of NW?

| I have been using full DN before I add context for user name only (I
wanted to make sure it works).
I am running NetWare 6.5 SP3 (lots of patches)

| It works on another server here too! Just not on this server! I have
tried all sorts of stuff. I seem to break it more than fix it. The
good news is,I save the files I modify.
I just do not know why I can not authenticate to this server!!

Let me have a peek at the config files at work tomorrow and see if I
can give any more clues.

| Novell asked me to ask:
Does the user have any contexts defined in the Security Settings page?
What browser version is he using? And, has he tried clearing the
browser cache/cookie cache?
Generally, to perform the authentication, we simply ask DS if the
incoming user is a valid user given the provided credentials. We look
for the user within each of the contexts defined in the Security
Settings page ...or the defaults used by DS itself.

| No Contexts defined (on either server)
IE is my browser, also tested Firefox, I have tried multiple PCs, tried
differnet users in different context. I have cleared cache and temp
files, etc, etc.
I have tried a user in the same context as the server, I have tried my
self (couple of context higher). All sorts of ways have been tested....

| I know that Apache or the WEB search engine loks at the PKI files. I
was tild there may be conf file or some thing to look at. What file
does that look at?
Would it be easier to remove the item out of autoexec.ncf, rename the
apache2, qsearch, tomcat & etc, re install the products and get it all
up and running? Any issues with this?

Not for authentication, no. It talks directly to LIBC for that.
