....and I can't even manage to toggle between two states in Flexbuilder2.
Awesome stuff.

Yes, since ActionScript 3 it's possible. ;-) Sockets power!
I happen to have something similar too now, it rocks. I currently can
talk to my
RemObjects and DataAbstract services only because of the bytearray and
binary sockets.

If I ever met the guy at Macromedia who was responsible for these two
feature, will
get a sick load of free beer (set of good german weib beer, dutch beer
and belguim beer) ;-)

Yours,

I read his blog entry, am familiar with Flex and Flash, and am still no
clear on what this "is" exactly. Can someone explain what Darron has
done? thx

Something of a screen-sharing client similar to how PC-anywhere works
(or VNC itself) is my interpretation of it.=20

So, if that's true, I'm curious about its usage/advantage over what's
already out there. Thoughts?

No need for a VNC client to be installed, no need for a extra
ActiveX/plugin to be installed in the browser. The Flash plugin has a
larger penetration then then VNC stuff. Nice for e-learning applications.

When will someone come out with a Flash based VNC server? That would get me
excited.

Well, the two that I can think of immediately offhand:

- Zero-install VNC client servable via HTTP

The same can be said for existing Java clients, though Flash
arguably has an easier path for upgrading to the latest VM.

This essentially allows someone to load up a webpage, enter
in their password and start watching or driving a remote
desktop served up via VNC. All they'd need is the Flash 8.5
Player.

- Flash native implementation (interop/integration)

You could also integrate the VNC client into more complex
RIAs. For example, you could build a Flash-based pair
programming tool which features chat, file transfers and
remote desktop sharing without recourse to Flash Player
extenders or third-party tools. This will likely be a
big deal for those who want a non-Breeze alternative for
screen-sharing via Flash.

In theory, given a proxy, Flash-based applications could
also be made shareable via a AS3 VNC server. Then, you
could share a Flash interface (just the SWF, not the actual
desktop) to remote VNC clients without additional client-
side software. At least for now, with the functionality
available via Flash Player 8.5, you'll still need to
install additional software to share your entire desktop
via VNC.

Auto-scaling of the vnc client display area comes to mind as an incredible advantage. BenG.
