Flash Communication/Media Server Guru Challenge

| Hey, I just had a brilliant idea...
What do you say we get Stefan or Bill Sanders or YOU to create a video
training series on Flash Com/Media Server to be posted on www.vtc.com
or www.lynda.com?
Is anyone up to the challenge? I'm sure they must give "trainers" some
sort of benies too.
Anyways, this would provide the community with a great resource for
tackeling administration and application development in Flash
Com/Media server. If anyone think they might be up to the challenge,
contact vtc.com or lynda.com to inquire about their training.
Let us all know the outcome!

| Nice idea.
Incidentally I think that a video training CD covering Flash video and some
FMS is already in development at one of the sites you mentioned. I am not
sure if I can say any more than that at this stage but it's neither myself
nor Bill who's authoring it. What I can say is that the subjects covered
should help any newcomers hit the ground running.

| Aaron,
Let me echo Stefan's comments and add one more. A while back I was
hoping to get everyone on this list to contribute a "chapter" to a
group-sponsored "book" on different aspects of FCS. To make a long
story short, it didn't fly. Maybe if Aaron and others who are FMS
beginners could provide a list of items they'd like to learn about,
we could set up a series of short articles and examples they could
use to get started.
Recently, I was looking at Will Law's article on Streaming Firewall
Proxies learned a lot simply by looking at the example code. The
WebDev articles are a great source of FMS/FCS info, but they tend to
be at a higher level and focused. However, they ought to be a
starting source. Likewise, Brian's online materials, both at the MM
site and Brian's site, are another great source of information as are
the ones on Stefan's flashmediaguru.com.
So, if the beginners on this list would provide a specific list of
"getting started" items, I'd be willing to try again to get the ball
rolling on a series of articles for beginners if others would
contribute as well. In the meantime, the simple-as-pie text chat app
provided shows how to use CS shared objects simply by looking at the
CS and do a SS so.send().
Cheers,
Bill

| A small plug here.
I am now a contributing author at IFBIN 'Flash/Flex by example'. While IFBIN
is a subscription service (with a weekly free example too) it's certainly of
great value for beginners as well as 'professional' Flash users.
I will be releasing a series of Flashcom related articles on IFBIN, some of
which are very basic (such as NC.connect, NS.onStatus) and others are a bit
more advanced (such as a private messaging sample).
What the samples all have in common is that they are ready to compile, there
is no need to follow a tutorial or re-write code from a book or article. I
find this is a great way of learning stuff and I rely on IFBIN for a lot of
my Flash8 learning.
All samples are heavily commented.
