Hi Heisen,

Yes it is possible. You need to just get the fram time and need to pass =
out to all client connected to server to play flv from the same time.

Good problem indeed.
=20
You could use progressive download. Once all the users have the movie d=
ownloaded the server calls a function on the swf of each user to start pl=
aying.

I think I wrote a sample of how to do that a million years ago. The trick is to grab the prerecorded stream on the server-side (Stream.get) and republish it as a live stream.

Use a server-side stream to play the recorded stream. Clients subscribe
to the server-side stream; eventhough it is playing back a recorded
stream, it will appear to clients as if it was live. I think the code
goes something like this:

Server-side:

strm =3D Stream.get("foo");
strm.play("recorded");

Client-side:

ns.play("foo");

Hi,

Yes, you could use that technique of replaying a 'pre-recorded' stream =
in a server made 'live' stream like Peldi mentioned, but you might loose =
some quality when re-playing a stream that way. I've done it often and I =
have some applications that rely on replaying streams that way for =
internal usage...so yes it can be done, but with some potential image =
quality loss. (It's not necessarily that drastic but watch-out if you're =
worried about quality)=20

The advantage of this technique on the other side is that the Flash Com =
server totally drives the playback on that "named" stream that all users =
are subscribed to listen on. It's a bit like having the server become a =
VCR that plays different videos one after the other on a single stream =
for you and your friends to watch. The server can decide to dump the =
stream playlist at anytime and start publishing a new stream feed into =
it as it desires (The server could decide to stream another live stream =
coming from a webcam). This "master" Stream, driven by the server, will =
act like a "Live" stream (like a webcam) making subscribers of the =
stream fall in the rules of Live Streaming, involving dropping frames if =
necessary to synch up with the stream publisher. It's very interesting =
to play with.=20

I would personally try obtaining your goals this way first, to see if =
the performance and all are fine. And then, if not satisfied, I'd =
proceed with the progressive technique...using that technique would take =
a lot of stress off the server (Less video streaming). Only issue with =
the progressive technique is, you'd need to wait for a confirmation that =
all the users have received that part of the video or simply if they've =
loaded the whole FLV in their cache... This makes me think... seeking =
FLV remotely on an HTTP server is possible... So, anything is possible =
;)

Enjoy your quest!
Fredz./
