Wake up call for MM

| Skype is moving towards video conferencing. Other major players will be in
the same market soon, with similar services.
Is this the time for MM to wake up and come up with clear, stright forward,
pricing plan, that will enable us to compete.
What do you think?

| FMS is not simply a plain vanilla video conferencing application like
Skype or many others. We add a tremendous amount of value, i.e. a
powerful application suite that just happens to have video conferencing.

| 1. I no longer work for Macromedia, though I miss it - I'm an excited
Adobe employee now, please direct all wakeup calls to Adobe.
2. Since you asked what I think. I think that this list and the CAB has
already played a big part in determining the licensing updates that
we've already announced are on the way. I'm not sure what an email
indicating that I or my coworkers are asleep at the switch is intended
to accomplish.
I realize that last line may sound a little unnecessarily hurt, but I
make no apologies for being passionate about FMS and its' technology.
Changes are in the works, announced changes, and I'd love to get a
reprieve for the team from the licensing slings and arrows while we work
on that for ya. Trust me! We're working on making FMS better for you,
every single day. If you have specific concerns about FMS tech please
contact me off list and I'll be happy to discuss it.
All the best,
Asa Whillock

| Asa,
We are trying to be patient, we really are. Outburst like this may come fro=
m
time to time, but please just take them as a reminder that the developer
community is looking around for viable options/alternatives but we really d=
o
want to see FMS 2 come full circle on it's capabilities and pricing.
After a conversation I had with another developer, I am wondering what is
being done, if anything, to support multicast streaming in FMS? With the ne=
w
media incentive, it seems that both on2 live encoding and multicasting is
the logical next step.

| As usual Aaron you swing in with the sensible and coherent voice for the
issue at hand. If I didn't appreciate members of the FMS community like
yourself so much I wouldn't be quite so shocked to see outright slaps at
the FMS product team. I think you and the rest of the community know
that we take every bit of feedback on these lists seriously, and respond
as honestly and quickly as we're legally allowed. =20
Of course there's competition for FMS and naturally everyone looks at
it. Competition is the hallmark of success. We here at FMS are
certainly aware of the Skypes, Red5's, Reals, and Windows Medias of the
world. I think about them, along with snippets of server code every
morning when my alarm clock drags me out of dream central.=20
You know I can't detail what in specific we're working on for next
release, but Chris Hock has I believe said that on2 video encoding is
one of our priorities and we're on the 90 day license action that has
been well announced and discussed. If you're concerned about a
particular tech for multicasting and details wherein, I'd love to hear
more about your needs for it. =20
Hard at work,
Asa

| So, you're still in that cool building in San Francisco with the Harley
in the lobby (if you mean you were in the MM HQ building) - is there
still a slide?
I stopped over there back in the mid-90s when I was just getting into
Multimedia and MM products, and felt like I was looking at Shangri-la.

| Heh, you predate me on that one. The slide was gone right before I
joined the company. However that was a different building across the
street. We've moved since then to 601 Townsend and I believe the slide
was in the 600 Townsend building.
It's still a good building but people speak fondly of the slide.
