Do I really need that much processing power
|
|
| Steven Kleckner 2005-12-21, 5:45 pm |
| Building a machine with three opsrey capture cards,
taking input from three cameras. The cards will be
using Windows media encoder to record the session. But
I also wanted to send a live feed to another FMS which
will dish it out to public. Since the cards are doing
most of the processing for the encoding and there will
be no one attaching to view the live source, would I
need that much processing power to send the live feed
to the other FMS server. Can I get away with a beefed
up desktop and still maintain quality video? Would I
need additional processing power to publish three
sources at 320 X 240 15fps.
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Steve

| Hi Steve,
I may be mistaken, but I think Flash player requires exclusive use of a
video source. So if you had another application open (media encoder),
the flash player would not be able to "see" the video.
Anyway, something to verify first.

Mike

| If no one is going to be watching the feed live then why not just take the
recording and compress it using squeeze or the flix encoder for later
viewing? But mike is correct.. each card only allows one application to use
it at a time.

Osprey have basically built in multi app support in their cards (well some
of them).
They call the tecnology for Simultream.
Instead of putting multiple cards in the same machine (or have multiple
machines with one card each) to encode multiple versions of the same feed
you can rely on one board (given that you have enough cpu power for the
encoding)
But downside is that one need to buy a key to unluck that feature. And last
time i checked it costed almost the same as a new board :-(
Cheers,
