Hello,

This is the first time I post someting here.
I'm a student informatics and for the moment I am busy writing a screen
share thing. I read about the breeze stuff on the mailing list and that
kind of policy of mm really sucks.
Now my question was if there was anybody who already had developed a
screen share plugin/driver. I'm not fond of using Camtasia cause people
have to install 3th party software. What I'm looking for or what I am
trying to develop is a virtual camera driver which see your screen as
the source so Flash can grab it.
Anyone who has any experience with this?

there has been some chat about it (superficial level anyway) in this list,
try searching the archives.

sorry i can't answer to it right now... let's say it's a problem which does
not regard flash nor flashcomm... so i don't think you will find too much
help in this list.

i have to warn you about some "small" problem...
the way flash encodes data is just not any good for screen sharing things...
too much contrast on each frame and the lack of ability to update only
modified areas mean you will need a HUGE bw to broadcast a simple desktop
(800x600 or more)... wihtout mentioning the HUGE bw peaks you will have on
keyframes.

My advice is to wait for flash 8 ;)

good luck with your project! (cool one )

About this problem, I'm preparing a document in which
I explain how it is possible to efficently use Flash to broadcast
a screen using camtasia and a special optimization.
I have fight for months against the "HUGE bw peaks on keyframe"
and now that I have found a very affordable solution I want
to share it with other Flashcom experts.
I'm writing it just now...

If you want to do this live, there are a few significant problems, the worst
of which is that the Flash player will encode your video using h.263 video
compression. This looks pretty ugly and is very inefficient for screen
capture (unless you're grabbing normal video off the screen).

If you want to write FLV files and play them from the server, take a look at
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/...ecification.pdf
and see the Video / Screen Video Bitstream Format section. This explains
the alternative lossless codec that works better for screen images.

Hope this helps,

Is screen sharing always via compressed video? Does terminal services,
PCAnywhere, or Webex use a codec? I think not.

What amazes me about Webex is that they've been able to take 14 year old
technology, wrap their chrome around it, and ASP it to the tune of
$230mm (projected) in 2004.

I wish we (IMAGE PLANT) had the time to wrap Flashcom around this kind
of screen sharing. =20

Right... there are TONS of way to create screensharing... sending the
"video" of the captured screen is the worst thing possible... but it's the
only thing possible with current flash.

well... webex uses an activex/standalone player... like breeze... there are
"no" technical problems creating screen sharing with this situation.
Real problems comes when you want to create it inside a browser
