getting started with Remoting

| Hiya everyone,
I'm trying to learn Flash Remoting, and have no idea where to start... =
can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have good experience Designing and coding in flash, and I've passed =
variables via get/post to flash before. However, I'd like to learn how =
to connect with JSP (or ASP if it's much easier), for an end of the =
semester project I'm working on at UMass Lowell.
Any help is much appreciated!

Adam,
I have had much luck with PHPObject from www.ghostwire.com. Due to the
fact that our development has been in LAMP, and there is no cost
involved, it was an attractive way to learn Remoting. But as a student
I am sure you are able to buy the Flash Remoting software at a discount
so if you already know ASP it shouldn't be that difficult to ramp up.
Take a look at http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/dotnet/ and Google for
some tutorials and you will be on your way.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

| Hi Adam (and everyone else interested),
I've done some smaller projects using AMFPHP, which is pretty
straightforward to install and use.
AMFPHP is open source, and, although the current version 0.9.0 is a beta,
they are apparently close to releasing v. 1.0.

Good luck

| Flash Remoting: The Definitive Guide, a book from O'Reilly that I edited
(see http://zeusprod.com/flashbooks.html) explains everything about Remoting
on different platforms.
That should teach you quite a bit. The author's web site has updated
information for getting the examples working with Flash MX 2004.

| Hi Varun,
I'm afraid I don't know the best way to get the actual book in India. As=20
Andreas already mentioned I think you can get access via the 14 day=20
trial of Safari but I haven't tried it myself.
http://safari.oreilly.com/
Even in Toronto the book is not always on bookshelves where you might=20
find other O'Reilly books. I usually tell people to just order it online=20
from a local supplier that has it in stock. My guess would be that=20
amazon.com is your best option unless there is an online seller in India=20
that has it in stock. Again, I don't really know. Maybe someone in India=20
can make a suggestion?
I don't know anything about rapidshare.de and why they have posted those=20
files. I thought Vladimir was just pointing it out to Bruce. Though I=20
guess doing so offlist would have been better.
It's a strange feeling realizing someone may have posted text from the=20
book on their site without permission and more strange reading it has=20
been downloaded over a thousand times.
I knew the market for the book would be small (people looking into=20
FlashCom or working with it) so I never expected to make much money on=20
the book. I also never imagined anyone would post text from the book=20
that way without permission - I'm assuming that is what is happening. On=20
one hand it's nice that someone thought it was worth stealing and on the=20
other sad that they would do so.
Yours truly,
-Brian
