| Hi Sam,
Thanks for that. I've been wrapping my head around design patterns with
that fantastic book from Oreilly, "Head First Design Patterns," and the
real time design patterns look to be just what's needed in FCS.
As AS matures into a ECMAScript language, and becomes less
distinguishable from Java/C++, etc. kind of languages, design patterns
make more and more sense. Brian and Colin both had good materials on
using them in both FCS and FMX 2004, and aYo swears by them. So
anything more you find like the real time design patterns is most
welcome.
For those wanting to start learning about design patters, check out
this link:

Download the Chapter 3 PDF file -- very bright people wrote this book.
(Two with graduate degrees from Yale in CS, and the others just plain
smart.) So while it looks like a comic book, and is just as much fun,
an incredible amount of work went into the effort.
Thanks again Sam.
Cheers,
Bill

| I really like that book. Much more read-able and learn-able than the "Gang
of Four" book (IMO). The book is pretty heavy on Java but still good...
very applicable to Flash.
I do find myself approaching projects sort of backwards... like picking a
pattern and then programming to the pattern instead of programming to my
unique application. My mode of operation is to start all structured and
well planned... then when the project really starts to crunch, I break my
own principles one by one. Then... before it totally falls apart, I rebuild
from the ground up. If you ask me, the implementation time for programming
is very very small (and should be). It's all in the planning and
understanding the objective.
Anyway, I love that book and have also read the "Head First Java" book...
which is probably more practical--specific anyway.
Thanks,
Phillip
