Author Adminstrator Console cant log on?????

I have a very basic question:

I am developing a a Comm application for the first time in a while and am a
little dry. I Just cant make a connection to my server from the Adminstrator
Console. It just doesnt make a connection. The server is on a nother
computer on my local network and I have no problems connecting to this
computer in general...None of my old files will connect either...

Could I be doing something basically wrong?

any help please...

/M

Some thoughts...

- A local network can assign a new IP to a server every other blue moon.

- Make sure the admin server is running as well as FCS. If your files=20=

are not running/working then that would be my guess if the step above=20
didn't solve the problem. If the server was rebooted and your admin=20
did not setup a method to restart FCS then it may in fact be *off*.

- I hear that the "ad/popup blocker" crazy going on in the PC world is=20=

actually blocking access to FCS in some instances. So you may want to=20=

turn them off if you have any (to be sure). Not sure how this applies=20=

to a local network though...

You'll need access to the server, checking that on either Linux or PC=20
is easy but different. I'd ask the server admin to check to see if=20
fcserver is running as well as fcadmin.

Michael,

A quick and dirty way of finding out whether your server is working is=20=

to write a simple little app that returns a value from the server. If=20
you get your return; then you know your server's working. Usually, this=20=

is done using the Administration Console, but if you do not have access=20=

to the console, you need a little testing app.

Bill

Thanks for the feedback.

My server is actually a normal computer running Windows XP - its not a real
server just a workstation that I have flash comm installed on. Its always
worked fine...
Now I just cant get any of my programs to connect or even log on with the
Admin Console like the software is corrupt or its just not running...

Does this change the situation?
What kind of app would I need to write?

Michael,

Here's a simple one:

Client side:

var hookup_nc:NetConnection =3D new NetConnection();
hookup_nc.onStatus=3Dfunction(info) {
if(info.code =3D=3D "NetConnection.Connect.Success") {
trace("You are connected to the server.")
}
}
hookup_nc.connect("rtmp:/serverTest");

On the server side, just include a folder "serverTest". In Chapter 3 of=20=

Brian's book, you will find a lot of good information about connecting=20=

to the server along with details about how to debug connection=20
problems.

HTH,
Bill

Odd...

I reinstalled my FCS and now the Adminstrator Console works fine when I run
it directly on the server, but when I try to run it from flash on my
workstation, it wont connect. At the same time my applications, connecting
to the same FCS and also running off my workstation works fine...??
