With a Flash UI? Not possible as there is no Player for phones that's even
equivalent to Flash 5, let alone 6.

Maybe they have done something in Java but even with that I'd say 99% of
phones will struggle due to CPU and memory limitations.

Actually the nokia 7710 has Flash 6 player. But the soon to be mainstream
Flash Lite 1.1 is not capable of streaming FLV (SWF only) and Flashcom via
proxy only.

Cool, I didn't know that. Do you know what OS this beauty runs?

Yeah Flash Lite is very limited...

Heck, if the latest handsets can run Flash 6 then why bother with Flash
Lite? I have to say though that even a fully fledged PocketPC like the iPaq
really struggles with Flashcom video - and forget sending video, you are
lucky if you can receive some. So I can only imagine what the 7710 would do
- lock up is my guess :-)

Well that's a different story, you can quite easily convert to 3gp, there
are many tools available for that. I think I used QT to encode (but not from
flv).
However 3gp is usually progressive or full download, I don't think it
actually streams but I could be wrong.

To do an on-the-fly conversion from flv to 3gp... No idea.

If I remember rightly is Symbian OS 9, series 80. Yup it's a beauty. Flash
Lite is a different kettle of fish, aimed at series 40 (mass market) , 60
(smartphone) and probably less so these "mini PDA's", like the 7710. It
includes a lot of phone specific features not present in the regular Flash
player and obviously lacks some that are present/necessary (mouse drag etc)
so both should sit happily together for quite some time, not to mention
future products like FlashCast which offers some interesting new directions
which splits away a little from the regular/desktop FP's infrastructure
(FlashComm etc).

Not wanting to diverge too much on this list...
As for converting to 3GP on the fly, I think this will convert to mp4 on the
server side:
http://mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net/docu...on/encoding.htm

Not sure is this is OT but it's good info. These guys are streaming
broadcast TV to your cell phone/PDA @ 24FPS.

http://www.smartvideo.com/index.html

.... the trick (they said in a review I saw on TV) is to scale the video
signal down to match the resolution on your device. Basically when
your device (with their software installed) makes a request, that
request has your devices resolution attached so that the service knows
what kind of signal to send you and scales the image down.

Very cool stuff.
