Author mapping virtual directory to another drive

I'm trying to use the <VirtualDirectory><Streams> tag in the Vhost.xml to
setup an alias to a location that is a mapped drive on another machine.

However, I can't get it to work at all.

I CAN setup entries to point to other locations on the same machine but not
to a mapped drive to another machine.
I have all permisions wide open.

anyone else seen this?

Example:

( same machine WORKS ) <Streams>sanc;C:\san</Streams>

( same machine WORKS ) <Streams>sanf;F:\san</Streams>

( different machine DOES NOT WORK ) <Streams>sanz;Z:\san</Streams>

( different machine DOES NOT WORK )
<Streams>sanip;\\10.0.100.206\var\san</Streams>

Weird, the IP mapping <Streams>sanip;\\10.0.100.206\var\san</Streams> should
work. DO NOT use drive letters or share names. Try again using the IP, that
always worked for me.
